Also, melee is a lot less reliant on resting and micromanagement. My first playthrough was Bloodrager Primalist/Azata, and that was pretty fun, although bits of the Bloodrager class seemed to be bugged when I played it.īroadly, I would tentatively recommend that you look for a melee class, and in particular one that can at least off-tank in a pinch, because the NPCs tend to lean to ranged/spellcasting builds. There are a crazy variety of fun, powerful builds to choose from, though. I did an Angel/ melee Oracle playthrough that was pretty satisfying, loosely based on this build guide: The power jump from a merged spellbook is very nice, and Angel spells are very, very powerful.

If you do decide to go with the Angel mythic path, a very natural choice is a spellcasting class that merges its spellbook with Angel. You may or may not want to take the Angel route as a matter of taste, though. Fantastic swiss army knife of a character even if the core Witch spell list isn't the greatest. This may be slightly nonresponsive to your question if your only concern is class mechanics, but I would recommend going with an build that fits well with the Angel mythic path, just because the Angel class story is significantly more elaborate and better integrated with the main plot than the other paths I've tried (specifically, Trickster and Azata). You could make a decent merc (and, for that matter, Ember can built into a good fire caster), but it just won't compare to what you get out of Azata, Gold Dragon or the Lich mythic path.

I think there's a good argument for an arcane blaster in this game, but it's probably best reserved as an MC-only path. (Of course, that doesn't answer your need for an Arcane caster). The Lann Empyreal Sorcerer path is an interesting one, but I'd probably consider making him a Hunter or Druid first, as I don't think the druid spell list is covered by any companions. Buffs are king in PF, and as Jondera says above, you can get everything you need between her and Woljif.

If you don't like Nenio (I don't either, though my objections are more mechanical than anything I don't like specialist wizards), I think the best option for a full arcane caster is Ember*. And he'll still be a solid contributor in fights as an archer, even with most/all his spells known sucked up by buffs. Especially if you decide to pick up the second monk level at some point to get Evasion (which isn't honestly a bad idea, given the relative lack of HP). He will end up with very delayed spell progression, though.

It's thematically weird for him, but it does give you a sorcerer casting off of Wisdom, and getting a couple buffs (off the cleric list, but still) for free from his bloodline. Especially with Abundant spells, that'll leave both of them with enough spell slots to do other useful stuff as well.ĮDIT: Alternatively, if you really must convert someone else to a full arcane caster, best bet is probably making Lann an Empyreal Sorcerer. Get the two working together let Ember cover the enlargement and heroism, while Woljif covers things like Haste/blur/stat buffs. She does get Enlarge (and Legendary Proportions, the much more powerful level 7 version), as well as Heroism, Greater Heroism, and the Witch-specific Heroic Invocation, a party-wide Greater Heroism that also makes your party immune to charm and fear. Yes, I know, she has healing spells, but that's the witch spell list for you. I've pointed this out before, but Ember is also a full arcane caster. Get him a few relevant mythic powers (Abundant Spells, Improved Abundant Spells, Enduring Spells, Greater Enduring Spells) and he should be fine. Click to expand. If your primary interest is buff spamming, Woljif should work as is? Eldritch Scoundrel only gets level 6 casting, but he gets the full wizard spell list and almost all of the standard applicable party buffs are in the level 1-5 range.
